Need something else?

Bus shelters provide seating and weather protection at bus stops.

You can:

  • Request a new bus stop shelter at an existing bus stop
  • Report a repair or maintenance issue with an existing bus stop shelter

The Department of Transportation (DOT) accepts requests for new bus stop shelters at an existing bus stop.

Bus stop shelter criteria include:

  • Clear path: Shelters must allow a minimum clear path of 7 feet in width.
  • Clearance from curb: All shelters must allow a straight unobstructed path of at least 3 feet between the shelter and the curb.
  • Other minimum distances:
    • 10 feet from fire hydrants or standpipes
    • 5 feet from tree trunks, canopies, tree pits, or cellar doors
    • 3 feet from streetlights or traffic signal poles
    • 2 feet from ventilation grates or street signs

DOT does not accept requests for benches in existing shelters. Benches are included in all new bus stop shelters.

You can report the following issues for repair or maintenance:

  • Broken glass
  • Burned out lights
  • Dirty or damaged bench
  • Graffiti on walls
  • Missing bus stop address sign
  • Shelter floor damage
  • Structural damage
  • General cleanliness

The City works with JCDecaux, a private vendor, to maintain its bus stop shelters.
