The NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) accepts requests for new speed reducer locations and requests to repair existing speed reducers.

Speed reducers and turn traffic calming devices, including rubber speed bumps, are installed citywide to:

  • Reduce speeding
  • Reduce left and right turning speed
  • Enforce safe turning behaviors

Devices used to slow down vehicles include:

  • Rubber speed bumps located on street turning locations
  • Speed reducer bumps/humps located on the street

The Turn Calming Program is part of the Vision Zero initiative. Its goal is to eliminate traffic fatalities and reduce severe injuries by installing these devices on the streets.

You can request DOT to install, repair, remove or move an existing speed reducer or turn traffic calming device, including a rubber speed bump.

You must provide a detailed description of the problem and the exact location in your request.
